Kim Wilson

Founders Statement

Kim Wilson is a resident of Elizabeth City, NC who graduated from Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) Fall 2010 with a BS in Psychology. Immediately after graduation she began graduate school and obtained two degrees: MS in Addiction Counseling and one in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University and is currently pursuing her Doctorate degree at Liberty University. Kim was born in Elizabeth City but raised in Plymouth, NC. Kim along with five siblings was raised by her mother. She has participated in many youth programs such as S. O. S. (Support Our Students), HYPE (Helping Youth Promote Employment), and Church Youth Ministry. Kim is very active in the community and loves working with the youth. Kim is a very strong, unique individual who has a passion for helping children succeed in life, encouraging youth to stay in school, encouraging the youth on the importance of self-awareness and ways to maintain self-esteem, and strive to be the best that they can be.  Kim is a Youth Motivational Speaker, Licensed Therapist (Substance Abuse), Behavior Specialist, Certified Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor, Infant Toddler Family Specialist and a Certified Life Coach. Kim work experience is in many fields which displays her strong work ethic. She makes it her priority to set positive examples for the younger generation.

 Giving back to the community has always been a goal in her life. She has experienced many challenges in her life that led her to start Girls for Empowerment. Girls for Empowerment is a 501c3 organization serving girls ages 5-18 focusing on Character Building, Education Enhancement, Community Service, and Cultural and Self Awareness all while providing participants with the necessary skills to navigate through life obstacles.  The organization host monthly community service events ranging from interaction with the elderly, volunteering at other agencies/schools, toy/food drives, and highway clean-up.  In spite of her challenges, Kim has made a good life for herself and her daughters.   She has observed many young girls make bad decisions in their life which resulted in them getting pregnant during their early teenage years, low self-esteem, poor judgment and bad decision making, in jail (detention center), high school drop-out, or has given up completely on life. She pray Girls for Empowerment organization will establish a firm foundation that will allow young girls to be themselves and seek help if needed and make good decisions in achieving their goals.

Kim plan to establish Girls for Empowerment organizations in several counties in which the organization already have established relationships with school systems as well as other organizations in Washington, Camden, Currituck, Chowan, Perquimans, and Pasquotank Counties. Kim has facilitated many support groups for youth and families ranging from suicide awareness and prevention, R. E. A. D. (Reading Everyday Advances Development), Youth Leadership Training: Prevention Plus Wellness, Bullying Awareness and Prevention, Self-Esteem and Self-Love.  Kim believes that it does take a VILLAGE to raise a child so it is very important for everyone to come together and help make this organization successful in reaching out to every youth.

She is very hard working and gives selfless to those who are in need. Her priority is making sure the youth in the community have a positive place where they are comfortable, able to FREELY express themselves, and intertwine with who they are. Kim’s passion for the youth and her community is very strong and positive.  She gives selflessly to others without expecting anything in return. She helps the youth make positive decisions regarding their success in life. She is up day and night making sure the programs are effective and being available for the participants, their families, as well as the community. Kim have several quotes she lives by: “Together we can make a difference”, Believe in yourself because I believe in you”. It’s a priority to Kim to make sure the children in the community become successful and not allow their obstacles to prevent them from succeeding in life.
